Kumo Jiu Jitsu is a unique style of Jiu Jitsu, as developed by Hanshi Darrell LaFrance. It is patterned after the fighting style of the spider (Kumo means "spider" in Japanese) and teaches all aspects of self defence; controlling your opponent with little energy or force, throwing and off-balancing techniques, pressure points, ground defence as well as kicking and punching.
The style incorporates aspects of Karate, Aikido, Drunken Kung Fu, Judo and Jiu Jitsu and integrates all this with the ground techniques of grappling which are part and parcel of the ancient forms of Jiu Jitsu. |

It is said that Jiu Jitsu is the "Mother of All Martial Arts"
In other words it is the martial art from which a lot of the other martial arts were derived. For example, Karate developed the striking aspect of Jiu Jitsu, Tae Kwon Do, developed the kicking aspect, Judo developed the throwing aspects. In addition, Jiu Jitsu advocates using your opponent's strength against themself, which means the Jiu Jitsu practitioner does not have to be strong to make the techniques effective. You will be trained to recognize and counter attacks from practitioners of other martial arts, and all without having to worry about how strong they are.

The air was laden with excitement and anticipation as Hanshi Darrell LaFrance stepped out onto the mat of the training area on Saturday November 15th, 2008 as six students from True Warrior Martial Arts and Fitness fearlessly prepared themselves for the taxing six hour Black Belt grading that was about to take place.
After an extremely long, exhausting, yet tremendously rewarding day, Bryon Bacon, Dean Hipson, Holly LaFrance, Nicole Ledlie, Brett Baumester and Sean Ledlie were all successfully graded to their First Degree Black Belts in Kumo Jiu Jitsu!
